Know before you go.

Essential requirements, gear checklists, and safety protocols for every Texas Defensive Shooting Club participant. Review carefully before your scheduled session.

Critical ammunition restrictions

Green-tip or steel-core ammunition is prohibited because it damages club steel. .308 and larger calibers on AR-10 platforms are not permitted. G2G pistol ammunition must be full metal jacket.

Required Gear Checklist

Mandatory
  • Hearing Protection

Must allow range commands and safety instructions to be heard.

  • Safety Shooting Glasses

Eye protection must be worn throughout live-fire activity.

  • Rigid Belt & Safe Holster

Holster must fit the pistol used. Shoulder holsters are not permitted.

  • Ammunition & Magazines

Bring three pistol magazines; WOGR carbine shooters also need two carbine magazines.

Safety Expectations

Protocol
  1. 1.

Treat every firearm as if it is loaded.

Never assume a chamber is empty; verify visually and physically when handling any firearm.

  2. 2.

Never point the firearm at anything you are not willing to destroy.

Keep the muzzle in a safe direction at all times.

  3. 3.

Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.

    Trigger discipline prevents negligent discharges.

  4. 4.

Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

Identify your backstop and account for every round.
